Looking for an excellent way to give of yourself and get instant gratification at the same time? Volunteer at a Nursing Home or Assisted Living facility in your community. Residents love the camaraderie of being with people of all ages, all abilities, and all talents. Volunteering at a long term care facility is fun, rewarding and good for the soul. You will see the fruits of your labor immediately and really make a difference in someone's life.
Activities would include transporting residents to activities inside and outside of the home, walking with them, helping them write letters or even e-mail to family and friends, having tea, playing cards or other games, listening to music together, or just sitting in a sunny common area having a chat. Come to events planned by the nursing facility. The Activities Department is always planning parties, teas, outings and many other events that you could join in on. Bring your children or grandchildren, most residents love to see those bright shiny faces! Pets are a favorite at nursing homes. If you have a gentle pet you would like to
bring for a visit, they provide a warm and fuzzy treat for residents.
