While no one could reasonably dispute the value of oral health care, it remains inaccessible to many adults on Medicaid. Nor has Congress demonstrated an appetite to change that fact. The Medicaid Dental Benefit Act of 2023, introduced in both the House and Senate, died without hearings.
Undaunted, House and Senate proponents are trying again with bills introduced in July, with one making adult dental care a mandatory Medicaid benefit fully funded by the federal government for three years.
